Sandy Andrys is originally from Missouri and raised in Florida. Her interest in becoming a court reporter began in high school when she won the FBLA shorthand contest for the state of Florida. She is a graduate of Sheridan Technical Center. In 1990 she earned the certification of Registered Merit Reporter. Sandy is experienced in medical malpractice, construction litigation, products liability, and a myriad of other technical genres.
After reporting 19 years for the same firm in Florida, in 2010 she made the move to work for another local court reporting agency before now joining the Elite Reporting Family!
Sandy and her husband own Big Fork Campground in Big South Fork National Park. She enjoys riding her horse, hiking in the woods, and spending time relaxing with doggie Emmy.
Kristin Burke, LCR
Kristin Burke graduated in March of 2000 with a CCR from Sheridan Technical Center in Hollywood, Fla. She worked in the Miami/Broward/Palm Beach area for eight years before moving to East Tennessee in April of 2008. She has experience in all areas of litigation at the state and federal level, criminal and civil, as well as meeting both private and public. Kristin proudly became a member of Elite Reporting in the Knoxville office in June of 2015. Kristin’s desire to give back to the profession that has given her so much was partly satisfied with her nomination and election onto the Board of the Tennessee Court Reporters Association in 2011. Her first role was as an Eastern Director and then as Vice President from 2012 – 2014. Kristin continues to support her state association as a committee member.
Kristin enjoys spending quality time with her husband Brian and their son Dexter, as well as cooking and traveling.
Jeannie Chaffin, LCR, CCR
Jeannie Chaffin always had the goal of going into the legal field in some form or fashion. In her early 20s, she decided to enroll at TCC in Nashville, where she excelled in the court reporting program and achieved many accolades. Since beginning her court reporting career in 2005, she has gained extensive experience in covering a variety of very complex litigation matters, such as medical malpractice and eminent domain issues to name a few. Jeannie joined the Elite Reporting team in February of 2010. She is a dedicated reporter and consummate professional.
Jenny Checuga, RPR, LCR
Jenny Checuga earned her license in Illinois in 1991. She has enjoyed working as an official with the Cook County courts, as a freelancer, owning her own business and teaching court reporting at Triton College where she herself went to school. She enjoys court reporting because it’s challenging and there’s always something new to learn.
In 2013 she decided to take her RPR. In April 2014 she received her LCR and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she became a part of the Elite family.
Jenny loves spending time with her wonderful husband and three children. She likes exploring all the beauty Tennessee has to offer and looks forward to her new life here.
Melanie Hajacos, LCR
Melanie came to Elite Reporting after working in the music industry for Country Music Duo, Brooks & Dunn. Her experience in the music industry honed her interpersonal skills and she developed an excellent ability to work in a cooperative environment. She finished at the top of her class in the court reporting program at Tennessee Career College in 2008. With meticulous attention to detail and her focused, professional manner in the courtroom, Melanie has continued to enjoy tremendous growth and knowledge in her passion for her work as a court reporter.
In her spare time, Melanie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, photography, and traveling. Her personal and professional excellence make her a dedicated and valuable asset to Elite Reporting.
April Howard, LCR
April graduated from Tennessee Career College in 2004 and was a valued reporter with Elite from 2005 to 2010, then rejoined in April of 2016. Some of April’s hobbies are traveling, spending time with her son, and home decorating; although spending time with her son and home decorating usually don’t go well together. She loves court reporting because of the constant challenges, and the variety that comes with each case daily. Stress? Yes, it can be stressful at times, but in the end, it’s very rewarding.
Joy Kennedy, LCR, CCR, RPR
Joy Kennedy graduated from Tennessee Career College in 1999. Her career started off in the freelance world until 2006 when she accepted a position with the State of Tennessee as an official court reporter in the criminal courts working under Judge Cheryl Blackburn. She has the experience of covering over 200 jury trials and numerous criminal proceedings in the last ten years while working with the State. She has just recently joined the Elite family in February of 2018.
Joy is a member of the National Court Reporters Association and the Tennessee Court Reporters Association. She has her RPR (registered professional reporter) and is working towards obtaining her CRR certification (certified realtime reporter).
In her free time Joy loves spending time with her family and friends and likes to stay active with her running club and 5:00 a.m. boot camps.
Paula McGuirk, RPR, LCR, CCR
Paula McGuirk is a registered professional reporter certified through NCRA, who began her court reporting career in 1989 as an official court reporter in Rhode Island, and had the pleasure of sitting for the same judge for 20-plus years. Paula also holds licenses in the states of Tennessee and Georgia, as well as holding the certification of Florida Professional Reporter.
After retiring as an official court reporter in 2010, Paula moved to Florida where she worked as a freelance reporter. In May of 2019, Paula relocated to Tennessee, where she joined the East Tennessee branch of Elite Reporting Services.
In her spare time, Paula enjoys spending time with her husband and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
Ashley Meeks, LCR
Ashley Meeks attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) from 2002 to 2004. She then attended the court reporting program at TCC from 2005 to 2008. Ashley completed her training online when the school closed. After graduating from the online program and receiving her certificate in -2009 from the Court Reporting Institute of Dallas, Ashley joined Elite Reporting as a valued team member.
She has demonstrated on a continuous basis her desire to learn and better her skills as a reporter. Her upbeat and positive attitude always makes any situation manageable. Ashley received an award for Most Outstanding Reporter in 2012.
In her free time, she enjoys gardening, bowling, playing disc golf, kayaking, watching football, especially Ole Miss and spending time with her husband, their daughter Hattie, and their two dogs.
LindsEy Perry, LCR, RPR, CRR
Lindsey Perry is an experienced realtime reporter nationally certified through the NCRA and also holds licenses in the State of California and the State of Tennessee. Lindsey has been a court reporter since 2004, working for 15 years in California as a freelance reporter. In 2019, she joined the Middle Tennessee branch of Elite Reporting Services and officially traded her California roots for the Southern life.
Lindsey is a second generation court reporter with experience in all areas of litigation and verbatim reporting. The strong relationships she builds with clients is attributable to her friendly professional demeanor, quick transcript turnaround, and dependable nature.
In her spare time, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids, attending concerts with friends, shopping, decorating her home, and traveling.
Jennifer Short, LCR
Jennifer Short graduated from TCC in 2005 with a CCR under the guidance of Max Curry. She recently joined Elite Reporting in the summer of 2013 in our Knoxville office. She has an extensive background in complicated medical and technical depositions, hearings and court trials.
Jennifer is mom to three great children. They stay active with their Shepherd-mix dog, Kip, and cat, Sweetpea. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, crocheting, reading, gardening and the outdoor life.
Julie Toney-White, B.C.R., LCR, CCR
Julie Toney-White, (Mississippi and Tennessee) was born and raised in the Arkansas Delta. Julie graduated from Ole Miss with a Bachelor’s of Court Reporting in December of 2004. She moved to Memphis and joined the court reporting firm Morrow & Associates. In 2010, she went out on her own for two years. In the summer of 2012, Julie joined Elite Reporting Services. She is licensed in Tennessee and certified in Mississippi. She is a member of NCRA, MCRA, and TCRA.
Julie lives in Oxford, Miss., with her husband Bryan and their son, Raleigh. They recently had another son in August of 2014. They have two dogs, Lily and Daisy and a cat, Zoey. In her spare time, Julie enjoys spending time with her family and animals, gardening, cooking, reading and being outside.
Michelle Smith, RMR, LCR, CCR, FPR, CLR
Michelle is a Registered Merit Reporter (RMR). She began reporting as a freelance reporter in 1997 in west Tennessee and later in Nashville. In 2012 she relocated to Panama City, Florida where she worked for the reporting firm Stewart & Shoman. In October of 2019 she returned to Tennessee and returned to the Elite family.
Michelle truly cares about the clients she serves. She is loyal, assiduous, very diligent and dedicated. She appreciates building new professional long-lasting relationships. She has mastered productivity and clients appreciate her efficiency. She always goes the extra mile and a great problem solver.
Having covered more than 5,000 assignments during her career, Michelle has reported on a vast range of subject matter but especially enjoys expert witnesses (psychologists/psychiatrists, forensic accountants, etc) and expert litigation.
When not not at work, Michelle enjoys outdoor activities and adventures and loves staying in unique Airbnbs when she travels.
